Cameron received an early music education on various musical instruments at the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music, and only began learning the bassoon at the age of fifteen, in 2004. He moved to Sydney in 2007 to study with Andrew Barnes at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Music Performance. Through the Conservatorium’s robust orchestral performance program, Cameron toured to New Caledonia and subsequently met his postgraduate teacher, Dr. Yoshiuki Ishikawa. 

 

In the North American Fall of 2012, Cameron accepted a scholarship and teaching assistantship offer to study under the guidance of Dr. Ishikawa, at the University of Colorado, at Boulder. In the following year Cameron was granted an AMF Young Musician Award on behalf of the trustees of the Australian Music Foundation, following an audition in New York. During that same year, he participated in several competitions, masterclasses, conferences and summer music festivals in Canada, The United States of America, and Taiwan. Cameron graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in May 2015, and receive a Masters of Music in Woodwind Performance. 

 

In February 2015, Cameron returned to Australia to refine is performance skills at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), under the guidance of Elise Millman. During this time Cameron also received lessons from Lyndon Watts and Matthew Wilkie. At ANAM, Cameron had a unique opportunity to perform chamber music with members from orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and many others. 

 

Cameron graduated from ANAM in December 2016 and is currently freelancing around Melbourne. So far in 2017 Cameron has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and he will be performing Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci and King Roger with Orchestra Victoria throughout April and May.
